Construction ~ Constriction @ European Poetry Festival 2021

Every elastic band is a line of a poem, every gesture an attempt to write the poem, to create order, balance, structure. Starting small, with gentle movements and breaths, holding on to what we thought we knew and to what our bodies remembered, then gradually becoming more and more frantic with anxiety, trying new moves, losing control, yet never forgetting the constrictions.

A 5-minute visual poem named Construction~Constriction, created in collaboration with Dutch poet and translator Astrid Alben and reflecting on the past 18 months.

The performance took place at the EPF 2021, on the 3rd of July in the remarkable grade 1 listed St John Church in Bethnal Green, designed by Sir John Soane.

20 poets in pairs from many countries across the continent, all living in the UK, presented brand new collaborations of literary performance, made especially for the night.

The European Poetry Festival is curated by SJ Fowler.
