Kiss Me @ Cadence Video Poetry Festival 2023
Verse meets visuals in motion at Cadence: Video Poetry Festival, presented by Northwest Film Forum, programmed in collaboration with Seattle author Chelsea Werner-Jatzke and intermedia artist Rana San. Cadence approaches video poetry as a literary genre presented as visual media, cultivating new meaning from the combination of text and moving image.
Entering its sixth year, Cadence 2023 features screenings from throughout the world, including my collaboration with transmedia artist Ruxandra Mitache, the videopoem Kiss Me.
Kiss Me is a poetic and immersive voyage into the growing world of plants to rediscover love and explore how to re-entangle ourselves with nature’s sentience and beauty.
“The strength and volume of submissions to Cadence proves that video poetry is not the niche or inaccessible art form it is often framed as,” says Cadence Co-Director Chelsea Werner-Jatzke. “The broad representation of countries, races, and ages featured in this year’s program makes this one of the most refreshing and relevant in the six years of the festival’s life. ”
Kiss Me is part of the The Great Entanglement showcase, a poetics of enmeshment told via climate crises, love letters, and AI interventions confronting the intertwining of humans, technology, and emotion.
